I have been fortunate to gain experience in each of the year groups within infants and juniors. My most recent experience is as a Year 6 classroom teacher. During my time as a classroom teacher the pupils in my classes have excelled academically and I have received many positive comments from both pupils and their parents. I will still be working at school from Wednesday to Friday, while offering private tuition on the Monday and Tuesday.
Tutoring offered
I am quite happy to provide extra tuition in areas of the curriculum covered in class. Alternatively, tutoring can offer specialist tuition in SATs preparation or foreign languages. Tuition can take place either in your own home (within 5 miles) or online. During the Lockdown I have found one to one online tuition to be very effective. Please feel free to contact me for more information.

English
Reading is the key to accessing the curriculum. As part of developing Reading Comprehension skills, pupils need to be taught how to decode using phonics. Later on they need to find information in a text to back up their ideas using the skills of retrieval, inference and deduction. Furthermore, children need to be able to write for a variety of different purposes. They will need to be familiar with the features of each type of writing. within this writing there is now an emphasis on SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar). For many children this can be challenging, since there are so many elements that must be maintained to a high level.
Maths
Mathematics tuition focuses on the two areas of arithmetic and reasoning. Pupils need to be taught to carry out arithmetic accurately and using the quickest and most efficient method. While this is also true for reasoning, pupils also have to practise and learn the importance of explaining their methods. More recently and with more pupils trying to achieve ‘Greater Depth’ in SATs , this ability to justify and explain has become crucial in both Mathematics and Reading Comprehension.
French/Spanish
As well as working as a class teacher I have also acted as a specialist French and Spanish teacher, delivering weekly lessons to all pupils within a school. Having been born in Spain but being brought up in the UK in a bilingual household, foreign languages have always been an integral part of my life. I feel that my personal experience has given me a real insight into how children learn languages successfully and enjoyably. I particularly enjoy sharing this passion with children and firmly believe that children learn a language more easily when they are young.
